Last Day of School Schedule
The last day of school, Thursday, May 23rd is a HALF DAY.  
  • N-CHS will dismiss between 11:15-11:30 (after testing completion)
  • Discovery will dismiss 11:05-11:20 (after testing completion)
  • N-CMS will dismiss at 12:15
  • South Newton, Shuford and Thornton will dismiss at 12:00
  • ACT & Conover will dismiss at 12:00

Drafting Projects
The Drafting II and III students presented their final model projects today at N-CHS. 
2-A Golf Champions

Alex Hefner of N-CHS won the individual championship and led his team to its first state golf title Tuesday In the 28th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s golf championships at the Longleaf Golf and Country Club. Hefner had a one-under par 70 on the first day and combined that with a one-over par 72 Tuesday for a 142 total.

The course was set at par 71 and 6,600 yards for the NCHSAA championship. Newton-Conover had the only sub-300 team score on Monday, and the Red Devils held on with a 312 on the final day to record a 611, four shots ahead of runner-up North Lincoln.  Shelby was third with 627 and Salisbury, the defending team champ, was in fourth with 632.

Congratulations to Coach John Echerd and the NCHS Golf Team and to Alex Hefner who won the 2A Individual State Golf Championship by shooting the lowest score of all the 2A golfers in the State Championship. We are proud of all of you.

2A Doubles Tennis State Champions
Congratulations to John Tate and Tyler Barrymore who won a 2A Doubles Tennis State Championship today. This is the fourth straight doubles tennis state championship for Newton-Conover. 
CVCC Math Competition
NCHS participated in the CVCC Math Competition.  Below are the N-CHS results.

NC Math and Science Acceptances
Newton-Conover High School is pleased to announce that Parker Ellwanger and Sam Oesterling have been accepted to the North Carolina School of Science and Math Residential program for the 2013-2014 school year and that Brittany Connor has been accepted to the North Carolina School of Science and Math Online program for the 2013-2014 school year.  These students have worked extremely hard to earn this opportunity and Newton-Conover High School is very proud of these students.

Clemson University Summer Scholars

Students, summer vacation is fast approaching and Clemson University Summer Scholars is offering fun and educational residential programs in June, July, and August for students entering the 9th through 12th grade in the fall.  Program offerings range from Automotive Engineering, Biology and Computer Engineering to Explorations in Architecture and Debate and many more diverse programs.  To find out more about the Clemson University Summer Scholars offerings, stop by the Guidance Office of Newton-Conover High School to pick up a brochure or visit the following website: www.clemson.edu/summer-scholars

 
N-CHS Wins 2-A Dual Team Wrestling Championship

Newton-Conover defeated Croatan 31-30 on Saturday night to capture the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A dual team wrestling championship at Croatan High School.

Franklin Wepner, the 132-pounder for the victorious Red Devils who won his match by a pin, was named the MVP of the championship match.  Newton-Conover finished the dual campaign with a 43-5 dual match record. The Red Devils had beaten defending state champion Piedmont on Thursday night in the state semifinals to advance to the championship match, which was Newton-Conover’s fourth title match appearance. The Red Devils were state dual team runners-up three straight years in 2007-09.

Congratulations to Coach Clark, Coach Murray, Coach Shuffler, and the N-CHS Wrestling Team.
